Point Conception Catalog '98

Surfing and art are my dual loves in life. I am fortunate to have found a way to combine the two. As a surfer, I have been able to travel from my home in California to such exotic locations as Indonesia, Tonga, Tahiti, Costa Rica, and Australia. The surfing lifestyle is one that I share with my husband. In fact, he proposed to me on a surfing trip to the tiny of of Bawa, off the Sumatran coast. He presented me with an engagement ring that he had hand carved from a coconut shell. My other love is art, which I've combined with surfing through the boards that I shape and decorate with my original paintings. I find that on my travels, I am drawn to the lush tropical jungles, as well as the perfect waves. These scenes from around the world find their way onto my surfboards and canvas. Women seem to like the idea of another woman shaping their surfboard. They feel that I understand them and their needs better. There are differences between men and women surfers. I know about those differences so women feel comfortable in working with me, less intimidated. Women need to be encouraged to do the activities that excite them; to try new adventures.
